How Does it work?

The Colorado Center for Weight Management provides a medically supervised weight loss program consisting of low calorie diet plans administered by a physician, Dr. James Day, certified in the treatment of obesity by The American Board of Bariatric Medicine. The staff, led by Head dietitian, Heather Cherry, is highly trained, and includes registered dietitians who are certified through the American Dietetic Association.

When you become a patient at the Colorado Center for Weight Management, you will undergo an initial Diagnostic and Health Assessment before beginning any weight loss program. This helps identify the causes of your weight problem, and is the basis for your individualized eating plan. Your initial visit will require two hours, so you should allow for this time when scheduling your appointment.

We will routinely apprise your primary care physician of your progress.

History and Physical Examination
When scheduling your first appointment, we will provide you with a medical and diet history form; please bring the completed form with you at the time of your first visit. We are interested in detecting any evidence of past or current illness that might be contributing to your weight problem or that might affect the treatment prescribed. A complete electrocardiogram will also be taken during the first appointment, and will be taken every four weeks thereafter.

Laboratory Test
Blood and urine specimens will be obtained during your initial visit, and every four weeks thereafter. The diagnosis profile includes the following tests: complete blood count, urinalysis, lipids, thyroid, iron, liver tests, proteins, calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, and blood sugar.

Maintenance
You will take part in a strong maintenance program that includes a ten week long course in behavior modification, and frequent weekly visits to our Registered dietitians. Moreover, your progress will be constantly monitored by a physician.

Additional Information
Continue your normal eating patterns until your first visit; dietary changes prior to this time might alter your test results. If possible, do not eat anything for twelve hours before your first appointment. However, it is important to drink plenty of water during this time period, or you might not feel well. If you are diabetic, do not fast for your first visit
